Getting a Dutch driving licence when you read Turkish
Hollanda'da ehliyet: teori sınavı tercümanla, hazırlık Türkçe
The CBR runs the car theory exam in Dutch and English only. If you read Turkish better than either, here is the route that works: practise in Turkish, sit the exam with an interpreter, and take the driving test with an instructor who speaks your language.
1. The theory exam, with an interpreter
- Book the exam at the CBR first, choosing "theory exam with interpreter" (€118.50).
- Then book a Turkish interpreter through one of the CBR's contracted agencies (thebigword, ELAN Languages, Mastertolken, Global Talk, Tolk2Go), at least 14 days before the exam, for the same product. Own interpreters are not allowed. The agency charges its own fee: €238.00 per exam (the agencies' own pages; the CBR publishes no amount).
- On the day: a separate room, a CBR employee reads each question, the interpreter translates it into Turkish, you click the answer. 45 minutes instead of 30. Some Dutch words are not translated.

2. Practise in Turkish first
TheorieExamen.nl states that its car theory course and practice exams are available in eight languages, Turkish among them (Dutch, English, Arabic, Turkish, Persian, Spanish, Russian, Polish). TheorieExamen.nl. (source: TheorieExamen.nl app listing, read 6 September 2026)
Whatever you practise in, learn the Dutch names of the signs and the six terms the CBR keeps in Dutch even in the English exam; the interpreter will not translate them. The six terms →
If your English is workable, the English exam is cheaper and needs no interpreter (€57.00 instead of €118.50 plus the agency fee); only 35.9% passed it in 2025, so prepare either way.
3. Lessons and the driving test in Turkish
At the practical exam your instructor may translate the examiner, if they hold a valid WRM-pas and speak Dutch and Turkish fluently. Otherwise a sworn interpreter with a tolkenpas may sit in the back. Either way your school must say so when booking the exam. Only the examiner's words are translated, not the navigation or the dashboard.
