    Rules

Expired EU licence: the law behind "you can still exchange"

    • If your EU, EEA or Swiss licence has expired, the result page now shows the legal basis for exchanging it: Dutch law (Reglement rijbewijzen, article 45) accepts a licence that was valid when you apply or has simply run out, and it sets no deadline.
    • The verdict itself has not changed. It still says to confirm with the RDW checklist, because the RDW page does not spell out the expired case. The law is linked in the "Why?" panel, in Dutch.
  2. 1.2.1

    Fees

Interpreter fee set to €238 per exam

    • An interpreter at a CBR exam now costs €238 per exam in the cost calculator, replacing the earlier €150 to €250 estimate.
    • The amount comes from the prices published by the CBR-contracted interpreter agencies. The CBR itself publishes no figure, so it stays marked as market data.
  3. 1.2.0

    New

Exam requirements for every licence category

    • The site now covers which CBR exams each licence category needs: car, motorcycle, moped, car with trailer, truck and bus. It also states whether the theory exam is offered in English and whether an interpreter is allowed.
    • Only the car theory exam exists in English. Motorcycle and moped theory are in Dutch or with an interpreter. The car-with-trailer licence has no theory exam at all.
    • Six CBR 2026 fees were added for motorcycle, moped and trailer exams. No existing amount changed.
  4. 1.1.4

    Estimates

Theory course estimate covers online practice to a classroom day

    • The theory course range widens from €40 to €80 to €30 to €129. It now covers two weeks of online practice as well as a one-day English classroom course. The typical figure stays €50, so headline totals do not change.
    • The recommended course is theory.nl, the English-language provider. Prices and links now point there.
  5. 1.1.3

    Fixed

Month-only expiry dates now run to the end of the month

    • A licence that expires "09/2026" is now valid through 30 September 2026 in the checker. Before, it was read as 1 September and could show as expired a month early, with an insurance warning.
  6. 1.1.2

    Fixed

A clearer answer when the issue and registration month are the same

    • For an EU or EFTA licence issued in the same month you registered in the Netherlands, the checker cannot tell which came first when it only knows the month. It now says so and points you to the RDW checklist, instead of stating the licence was never valid here.
  7. 1.1.1

    Estimates

Experienced drivers priced at 15 lessons

    • The cost calculator now assumes 15 lessons for an experienced driver, the midpoint of the sourced range of 10 to 20. The previous default of 12 made the headline total optimistic.
  8. 1.1.0

    Rules

Non-EU licences issued after you registered in the Netherlands

    • A non-EU licence issued after your Dutch registration still gives you the 185-day driving window. Dutch road-traffic law sets no condition on where you lived when the licence was issued. Because the RDW describes the case of a licence obtained before moving, this verdict asks you to confirm it with the RDW checklist.
    • Result pages now show the validity rules and their sources behind the "Why?" panel, as they already did for exchange.
  9. 1.0.1

    Improved

Smaller download and monthly source monitoring

    • The checker loads a lighter copy of the country data, so results appear faster on mobile.
    • An automated check of every cited official page now runs monthly and flags changes for a human re-read.
    • Correction of 4 September 2026: result pages showed version 1.0.0 for this release. The label is fixed. No rule changed.
  10. 1.0.0

    New

    First release of the rules

    • A specific verdict for every country and territory: all 249 ISO codes, plus separate entries for the Canadian provinces, the UK nations and Kosovo.
    • 2026 CBR and municipal fees, including six city-specific amounts for the cost calculator.
    • Every rule names the official page it was read from and the day it was read.

Sourced

Every rule cites an official RDW, CBR or government page and the day it was read. Open any source from the "Why?" panel under a verdict.

Re-checked

A monthly check re-reads every cited page. A rule changes only after a human reads the page that day. How we verify.
